Mayoral Statement – 19th January 2016
Welcome to the first Council Meeting for 2016. Best wishes to everyone for a healthy and happy year. It promises to be another tough, but exciting year.
It has been pleasing to see the Alf Larson and Lions Park redevelopment in Miriam Vale underway. On Saturday, we will open Liz Cunningham Park. The long awaited community facilities at Turkey Beach will be constructed. Builyan playground and the Many Peaks Railway Dam development will be commenced and completed this year and we are doing major work at the Calliope Cemetery. Re-surfacing work and general road construction will be on-going and we have several water and waste water projects planned for this year. In March, we have the Local Government Elections. As well, Cruise ships will berth on the 10th and the 20th of March.
We have had a very exciting start to the year with the announcement that we have been successful in Round 2 of the Federal Bridges Renewal Programme for NRG Balloon Loop Bridge. The grant is $250,000 with a matching Council contribution, special thanks to our Federal Member Ken O’Dowd for his help with this funding.
