Good afternoon Cr Gail Sellers, In August 2012, Dean who is vision impaired from an eye disease and myself Donna will be cycling on a tandem bike from Cairns to Brisbane 1700kms, unsupported and totally on our own. We are raising community awareness and the much needed funds for continued research into Diabetes. This is also a personal challenge for us both to complete, since I (Donna) has had a total lifestyle change by losing just over 25kgs in weight since January 2010 and both Dean and I giving up smoking on May 2010 after 30years of smoking. As you may know there are 2 main types of diabetes. Type 1 is less common usually affecting children, young adults but this can occur at any age. Type 2 is a lifestyle disease affecting 85—90% of all people with diabetes. This usually occurs in adults but younger people and even children are now getting this lifestyle disease. DAQ mission is to provide practical support and education by promoting public awareness and actively keep seeking funds for Diabetes research. Should you wish to discuss any further details please contact me on 0419 795 983 or via email :donna.cameron43@bigpond.com I greatly appreciate if anyone would like to donate to our fundraising page and together we can make a difference in so many peoples lives. I also attach a photo from one of our bike challenges last year, Southbank to Gold Coast and the letter from Diabetes to fundraise. Warm regards, Donna Cameron |
