The length and breadth of the new Gladstone Region Council electorate covers exactly the region of my ancestory. My great grandparents were pioneers of the Boyne Valley, my parents were born and raised in Calliope and I joined the world in Gladstone. Gail Sellers is officially a true, 100% local!
The relevance of this is that I really do have a connection with the entire region. While I have been a Councillor and Deputy Mayor on the Gladstone City Council for 18 and 11 years respectively, I have an intrinsic understanding of what our communities from Miriam Vale to Mt Larcom need.
As a school teacher in the region since the early 70s, I have come to know many of our children, their parents and their extended families. This base, combined with the many people I meet through my various roles is my sounding board for raising issues on Council and ensuring the right action is taken.
